A missed Bday and Divorce papers
Golf is full of wild stories, but this one might take the cake—or in this case, the divorce papers. Last week, a guy shared his unforgettable Saturday round on Reddit, and let's just say, when you choose a tee time over your kid's birthday, you might end up with a little more than a bogey.
TLDR: Guy misses daughters birthday party for a tee time, wife met our group on 18 with divorce papers
"On Saturday, I played a muni course about an hour away. Booked as a single and ended up being paired with a threesome that plays every Saturday at 9am no matter what. Anyways, on hole 3 we get heavily backed up and one of the guys said that he needed to be done by 11:30 because his 13 year old daughter’s birthday lunch was at noon. I immediately knew that he wasn’t going to be on time.
Fast forward to hole 7 (10:40am) and his wife calls and he tells her that he is only on hole 5 but will come home after 9. He then turns to his buddy and says “She’s 13, it’s not like she will remember if I was actually on time for her birthday lunch…”
Fully expecting him to be responsible and leave after 9, he comes out of the clubhouse with some more beer and we all head to the back 9 (11:10am). On hole 12 (11:50ish), his wife calls again and he tells her that he is “sobering up” in the parking lot before driving home. They get in a huge argument and he hangs up. While he was on the phone, one of the guys told me that they were separated but trying to work things out.
Around 1pm, on the 18th hole, we hit our approach shots and see a cart riding over with a Marshall and a woman. Turns out, this guys wife previously had divorce papers written up and decided to serve them in the funniest way possible, right on the 18th green. They got in a huge argument and he storms off in his cart leaving his buddy behind.
I’m no lawyer so I have no idea if this is actually legal, but it took everything in me to not ask the other guys “same time next week? And do you think we will need a 4th now?” Muni golf is wild."
The BMW Championship: High Stakes Meet High Altitude
50 golfers are still in the hunt for the FedEx Cup, but as the BMW Championship tees off this today, the spotlight won't just be on star players like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, or Rory McIlroy. Instead, Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado, will steal the show with its unique challenges—testing the pros in ways that only high-altitude golf can.
The Altitude Effect: More Than Just a Long Ball
Playing at 6,400 feet above sea level, Castle Pines introduces an entirely different game. The thin air at this altitude means golf balls fly farther—sometimes much farther—making distance control a critical factor. The course is already a beast at 8,130 yards, a tour record, but the altitude will make it feel even longer and more unpredictable.
Wyndham Clark, a Colorado native, knows this better than most. “There’s a little inconsistency in the thin air and altitude depending on how high you hit it,” Clark explained. “If anyone seems to err, go long or short, it’s probably because of trajectory. That’s going to be the challenge. Everyone is going to have a good idea of how far they’re hitting the clubs, but you can sometimes just hit one forever in Colorado.”
JT and Jason Day: On the Bubble and Under Pressure
Both players are currently sitting precariously close to the cutoff for the Tour Championship, with Thomas at No. 22 and Day at No. 25 in the FedEx Cup standings. Only the top 30 players will advance to next week’s finale in Atlanta.
For JT, this week isn’t just about keeping his season alive; it’s about proving he’s still one of the game’s elite. “I’d rather definitely just try to play as well as I can,” Thomas said, making it clear that he’s focused on the task at hand rather than crunching the numbers on playoff scenarios.
Scottie vs Xander fighting #1
Xander Schauffele is the only golfer in the field this week that can mathematically take over the 1 seed and start next weeks Tour Championship at -10 under as apposed to -8 under for 2nd place. If Scottie doesn’t finish better than a two-way tie for fourth this week, and Xander pulls off a win, Xander steals the top spot!
